Suno shipped v6 on September 9, 2026, and it is the most consequential release the company has made — not only because the models got better, but because of where the training data comes from.
This page covers what v6 actually is, what the three models do, what the licensing deals do and do not cover, and how GenMusicLab's own V6 models compare.
What makes v6 different
Earlier Suno versions (v3 through v5.5) were trained without label licences, which is what drove years of litigation from the major labels. v6 flips that: it is built on catalogs from Warner Music Group, BMG and Believe/TuneCore, and those rights holders now share in revenue from Suno's subscription business. Suno's CEO framed it as artists and songwriters sharing in revenue from its paid subscribers.
Two things worth keeping in perspective:
- It is a first step, not a settlement. Sony Music's and Universal Music Group's lawsuits against Suno were still active as of September 2026, and v6 covers the catalogs that signed on — not the whole music industry.
- Old models are being retired. New generations move to v6. Songs you already made stay in your library and keep playing.
The three v6 models
| Model | Who gets it | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| v6 | Pro and Premier | The flagship: reliable, precise, polished across genres. The one to reach for when you know what you want. |
| v6-wild | Pro and Premier | Built for exploration — less predictable, more varied, textured and ambitious results. |
| v6-mini | Every plan, including free | A lighter, faster variant for quick ideas and high-volume experimenting. |
All three support generations up to 8 minutes, and you pick the model from the model dropdown in the Create form.
What v6 can do that previous versions could not
- Edit part of a song in plain language. "Change the chorus so it's sung by a gospel choir" touches only that section.
- Build mashups from multiple sources in one request. Combine vocals from one track, drums from another, and describe how they should work together.
- Sample, isolate and build a beat in one workflow. "Sample the riff at 0:45, isolate the guitar, build a beat around it."
